Dental radiographs (X-rays)
Dental radiographs, or X-rays, are an important part of your thorough dental examination. A full set of X-rays (18) is usually required during your first visit, or when extensive treatment is needed. Two to four follow-up or check-up X-rays called "bite-wings" are necessary every 6-18 months, depending on each individual patient’s needs.
Dental X-rays are important for many reasons. They can expose hidden dental decay; reveal a dental abscess, cyst or tumor; show impacted or extra teeth; and also help determine the condition of fillings, crowns, bridges and root canals.
Dental X-rays can also reveal bone loss from periodontal (gum) disease, locate tartar buildup, find foreign bodies within the gum or bone, and see if there is enough bone for the placement of dental implants. These are just some of the many reasons why our dentists rely on dental X-rays.
Restorations
Tooth decay is most often detected on the back molars and inter-proximal surfaces (between your teeth). The mouth is an ideal living environment for bacteria, which is responsible for most tooth damage. Bacteria thrives on sugar so limiting your sugar intake and following a good oral health standard helps create the best conditions to stay cavity free. Six monthly checks are recommended for early detection of decay. Cavities therefore can be restored easily, efficiently and in most cases are painless.
Endodontics (Root Canals)
Your teeth are meant to last you for a lifetime. If your teeth have been exposed to disease or trauma your dentist may recommend a Root Canal Treatment as an option to save your tooth. Symptoms that may indicate the need for treatment are spontaneous pain or throbbing while biting, sensitivity to hot and cold food, sharp pain when touched or severe areas of decay. Root canal treatments have a high success rate, therefore being an ideal option to restore teeth to maintain their function within the mouth.
At Nicolas & Asp College, we provide our specialists with state-of-the-art equipment and continued training in the most up-to-date endodontic technology and materials. We promote strong interaction between our general dentists and endodontists, ensuring quality care to our patients.
Prosthodontics (Crown/Bridge/Denture)
Prosthodontics, also called prosthetic dentistry, is the field of dental care that involves restoring and maintaining oral function, health, comfort and appearance by replacing teeth and gum tissue with artificial substitutes. Prosthodontists can fit patients with such prosthetic devices as single or multiple tooth crowns and bridges, partial dentures and complete dentures.
Nicolas & Asp College enjoys having dentists with years of experience in prosthetics, as well as in-house lab technicians on the cutting edge of materials and techniques. We provide our patients with quality results in all aspects of their prosthetic needs.
Dentures
If you have been unfortunate enough to have lost teeth due to extensive decay, trauma, Periodontal Disease or for any other reason, your Dentist or our dental specialists can provide you with a range of Prosthodontics which will give back that natural smile. Your teeth are there for your appearance, eating and speaking, and after your Dentist has provided you with a complete examination, he/she can offer you advice on treatment that best suits your needs.
Crown
When a tooth is heavily decayed it is more likely to fracture and lose considerable tooth substance. The greater risk is that a fracture line may go below the margin of the gum which makes restoration more difficult or near impossible. Crowns may be made from several different materials, gold and porcelain being the most common types. Gold is usually used on the back teeth. Porcelain is usually always used for the front teeth but may be used for the back teeth.
Bridge
A bridge allows the dentist to replace lost teeth in order to improve your appearance and bite. Basically a false tooth is held in place by being attached to a tooth next door. A bridge uses the considerable skill of the dentist and technician, and in this way, it’s similar to ordering a piece of handmade jewellery.
